The Right Reverend Grant LeMarquand

Bishop for International Mission (Retired)

Grant LeMarquand is a native of Montreal, and a graduate of McGill University. He was ordained in the Diocese of Montreal by the Rt Rev Reg Hollis. After working in two parishes in Montreal, he and his wife Wendy served as missionaries in Kenya where Grant taught (mostly) New Testament at St Paul’s United Theological College, Limuru. Returning to Canada, Grant completed a Th.D. in New Testament studies at Wycliffe College. From 1998 until 2012 he was Professor of Biblical Studies and Mission at Trinity School for Ministry (TSM) in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. From 2012 – 2018 Grant was the Area Bishop for The Horn of Africa within the Anglican / Episcopal Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa. His episcopal area included oversight of approximately 150 churches in the countries of Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Ethiopia. Returning to teaching in late 2016, Grant became Professor of Mission at TSM for a couple of years, before once again being Professor of New Testament. At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Grant also served as the Interim Bishop for the Diocese of the Great Lakes in the ACNA. Grant retired from teaching at TSM in June 2023.

 

Grant has written and edited numerous articles and books, including Why Haven’t You Left? Letters from the Sudan (Church Publications) and A Comparative Study of the Story of the Bleeding Woman in North Atlantic and African Contexts (Peter Lang).

 

Bishop LeMarquand and his wife Wendy, who is a retired medical doctor, live in Innisfail, Alberta. They have two grown children and one grandchild.

 

On August 1, 2023 Grant became the Interim Assistant Bishop for the Mountains and Prairies region of ANiC and also has responsibility for encouraging world mission.
