Packer College
A diocesan theological college for the Anglican Network in Canada
Named for the great author, professor, and theologian, the Reverend Canon Dr. J.I. Packer—one of our diocese’s founding clergy and our Theologian Emeritus—Packer College is a school dedicated to producing graduates ready for ordained ministry in our diocese and beyond. It was founded in 2021 and is based in St. John’s, Newfoundland on the campus of our Church of the Good Samaritan.
The college welcomes students from all backgrounds and traditions and yet is proudly Anglican, seeking to immerse students in the Anglican rhythms of daily prayer, community life, and ministry. It is to be academically excellent, with highly qualified Anglican professors and a robust, orthodox, Biblically grounded curriculum for training ministers and pastors for fruitful, lifelong ministry. And, in everything, Packer College is to be a place saturated in the gospel of Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord and Saviour, and glorious Hope.
Packer began offering classes in the fall of 2021 and as the formation of the college has continued the vision has expanded to begin offering more extensive online access to courses and classes. In this way, while deeply valuing the benefits of students being in residence, the college can also offer education to students all across Canada and around the world. It can now also serve to supplement the education of students at other institutions who would benefit from specifically Anglican and specifically ANiC oriented training.
Starting a theological college is no small task and requires a great deal of financial support, but we think it’s worth it. As a diocese we believe it’s imperative to be raising up and training new leaders who can build and lead Biblically faithful, Gospel sharing, Anglican churches.
So, would you consider helping support our efforts to multiply leaders and churches across ANiC through our Multiply For Mission Fund which supports the the work of Packer College, our Curacy Program and our Church Planting initiatives. You can give here:
