Easter Family Meal Ideas

Some ideas for worshipping Jesus during your family meal together this Easter.

This Easter will be different than most of us have ever experienced. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic most of us will find ourselves at home all day and unable to gather in-person with our church families. But we can still worship and honour the Lord over our family meal at home.

There are lots of things you could do, lots of songs or readings or liturgy you could use. But here are a few ideas for a Family Easter Meal:

Sing a song together:

Ideas:
Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord” by Paul Baloche (lyrics)
“Blessed be Your Name” by Matt Redman (
lyrics)
”Amazing Grace” by John Newton (
lyrics)

Say a prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ we thank you on the first Easter, you walked with two and explained to them the things concerning yourself in all the Scriptures and then you had a meal with them and later met all the disciples and said “ peace be with you.”

We thank you that you have promised where two or three are gathered in your Name you are in the midst of us. We welcome you Risen Lord Jesus to our Easter family meal, bless this food and our fellowship around the table and fill us with the joy of your Resurrection Life.

Give thanks in song:

Be present at our table, Lord;

Be here and everywhere adored;

Thy creatures bless, and grant that we

May feast in paradise with Thee.

We thank Thee, Lord, for this our food,

For life and health and every good;

By Thine own hand may we be fed;

Give us each day our daily bread.

We thank Thee, Lord, for this our good,

But more because of Jesus’ blood;

Let manna to our souls be giv’n,

The Bread of Life sent down from Heav’n.

At the conclusion of the meal

Sing or say:

Open our eyes, Lord,

we want to see Jesus,

to reach out and touch him,

and say that we love him.

Open our ears, Lord,

and help us to listen.

Open our eyes, Lord,

we want to see Jesus.

Sing:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus

Look full, in his wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of his glory and grace

Read Luke 24:36-49:

36 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, "Peace to you!"

37 But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit.

38 And he said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?

39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have."

40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?"

42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,

43 and he took it and ate before them.

44 Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled."

45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,

46 and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,

47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

48 You are witnesses of these things.

49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

Luke 24:36-49

Pray together:

O GOD, who makes us glad with the yearly remembrance of the resurrection from the dead of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we who celebrate this Paschal feast may die daily unto sin, and live with him evermore in the glory of his endless life; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Sing:

“He is Lord He is Lord

He is risen from the dead and He is Lord

Every knee shall bow every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

(Repeat)

Say together:

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
