Queen Elizabeth II
A letter from Bishop Charlie, Bishop Dan and our House of Bishops
Today, September 8th, 2022 we have all heard the sad news of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
In Canada we have been truly honoured and blessed ever since February 1952 to know her as our Queen and to sing with joy “God save our gracious Queen, long live our noble queen, God save the Queen.”
As members of ANiC, along with all Anglicans worldwide, it has also been a true joy to know her as Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
Perhaps particularly in her annual Christmas Day messages, we all became aware year by year that this dear woman had a true and living faith in the Lord Jesus which shone forth and enabled her to reign as queen with such beauty and dignity and grace.
She walked with God all these years and served us all in the Commonwealth with great care.
Our Primate, Archbishop Foley Beach, has called us to pray with him for the royal family. You can read his call to prayer here.
And so together we grieve the Queen's passing and pray for King Charles III, her successor, and all their family.
She has been promoted to glory on this day and we thank God for her.
