The Word One to One
A resource to help anyone introduce someone to the Bible and what it says about Jesus.
The Word One to One describes itself as “an opportunity to get together with a friend and see what the Bible says about Jesus.” It is a tool and resource for assisting Christians in introducing the Bible and the good news of Jesus to people through reading the book of John. Using either small booklets, their website or their app you can read the book of John and explore some simple notes one on one with someone.
Created originally in 2006 by Richard Borgonon (who spoke at our Synod in 2023) and William Taylor in London, England, the materials have been revised and updated over the years and are now used and accessible to people all around the world. It was written in an effort to meet a need for an accessible resource to help people discover for themselves what the Bible actually says.
They describe their vision in this way:
The Word One to One exists to see the church equipping and sending out ‘joyful Bible sharers’ in every nation of the world. We do that by:
Equipping Christians to share God’s Word. Explore the books.
Resourcing leaders to mobilise their people in Bible sharing. See what we offer.
Developing a supportive community of Bible sharers and Bible-sharing churches around the world. Join the community.
The materials have been created in hopes that anyone, no matter their experience, could use it to explore with a friend what the Bible says about Jesus. It’s intended to be relational, accessible and intentional. One of their goals is to help Christians, who may not see themselves as skilled evangelists or apologists, to see that they can be “page turners.” And that the Lord works through his written word to call his people to himself. For many of us our role is simply to turn the page and let God work in the hearts of whomever we are meeting with.
The Word One to One has been highly commended by Anglicans such as the Archbishop Kanishka Raffel of Sydney, evangelist and creator of Christianity Explored Rico Tice, and others. In 2023 Richard Borgonon presented on The Word One to One to all of Gafcon in Kigali, Rwanda and to our diocesan synod later in Vancouver. As we pursue together our priority of being Bold Witnesses for the gospel, our hope is that The Word One to One can be a valuable tool for us all in introducing people to the story of Jesus and inviting them to learn more.
You can access The Word One to One in all of its forms from their website and learn much more:
